It's time to apply for your Jubilee street party

After the success in Hertfordshire of street parties to celebrate the royal wedding, your county council is encouraging residents to start planning celebrations for the Queen's Diamond Jubilee in June 2012.

Hertfordshire Highways has now opened the road closure application process for anyone who wants to get their community together for a street party over the extended bank holiday at the start of June. There will be no road closure fee for small community events (see Notes for Editors). The closing date for applications is 1 May 2012.

Stuart Pile, Cabinet Member for Highways and Transport, said: "If new year festivities have got you in the party mood, how about getting your local community together to celebrate the Queen's Diamond Jubilee?

"Once again, there will be no fees for anyone who wants to close a residential road for a community event for themselves and their neighbours. When we waived fees for royal wedding street parties in 2011, Hertfordshire topped the party league table with nearly 300 street parties. It'd be great if we can have a similar response for the Diamond Jubilee. Street parties are a fantastic way of bringing communities together and it's really straightforward to apply."

If you're interested in organising a street party, all the information you need is available on your county council's website at www.hertsdirect.org/services/transtreets/highways/diamondjubilee/ To apply for a road closure to hold a street party download the online form and email it to us at hertfordshire.highways@hertshighways.org.uk or send it to us at the address on the form.
